MESHREF : Thailand advanced to the second round of the Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Zone Group II after claiming a 4-1 win against Kuwait yesterday.
Thailand, holding a 2-1 advantage going into yesterday's action, secured the third point which sealed the tie and a place in the second round. Abdullah Maqdas was forced to pull out during the match against Thai No.1 Danai Udomchoke. Maqdas injured his left ankle in the fourth game of the second set while leading 6-2, 0-3.
Danai got off to a poor start and had his serve broken twice to lose the opening set 6-2. The Thai veteran fought his way back in the second and broke his opponent twice to take 3-0 lead before Maqdas fell awkwardly on his left ankle while stretching for a return.
