Asian Tour No.1 Thaworn Wiratchant and Chapchai Nirat will participate in the inaugural Golf Premier League in Mumbai, India.
The three-day tournament, featuring eight four-player teams, will tee off today at the Aamby Valley course.
Among the big names are 2011 British Open champion Darren Clarke, 2005 US Open champion Michael Campbell, 2002 PGA Championship winner Rich Beem and Angel Cabrera who won the 2009 Masters and 2007 US Open.
Thirty-two players are divided into eight teams. Each team features four players drawn from a pool of internationals, Asian Tour golfers.
The competition uses a format of two day-night rounds of stroke play, followed by the third and final round of four-ball and foursome. Each round will be played only over 14 holes instead of regular 18 holes.
The winning team will get US$ 250,000 while the runner-up and the third-placed teams receive $100,000 and $50,000 respectively.
Both Thaworn and Chapchai have vivid memories in India.
The 46-year-old Thaworn has won a record 15 Asian Tour titles that include two Indian Open victories in 2005 and 2006.
As for the three-time Asian Tour winner Chapchai, his last win came at the SAIL Open 2009 in New Delhi where he set a new world 72-hole scoring record with a 32-under-par 256 total. He also set new Asian Tour scoring records for 36 and 54 holes during the event.
