Chawalit powers into Myanmar lead

YANGON - Chawalit Plaphol caught and passed a faltering Kiradech Aphibarnrat to take first place as Thai golfers dominated the leaderboard with one day to go at the Zaykabar Myanmar Open.

Chapchai Nirat was tied for third place and Arnond Vongvanij lay fifth, with Angelo Que of the Philippines the only non-Thai in the top five at the end of play on Saturday.

The story of the day was at the top, where Kiradech - the leader after the first and second rounds - had more putting problems and finished just one under par, for a three-round total of 14-under.

His stumbles allowed Chawalit to climb into first place with a birdie on the 18th hole that gave him a round of four under par.

Chapchai and Que were just one shot behind, however, and eight other golfers were just two or three shots behind the leaders as the field prepared for Sunday's final day.
