Ratchanok moves into Swiss quarters

Emerging star Ratchanok Intanon on Thursday evening moved into the quarter-finals of the Swiss Open badminton tournament after beating Taiwan's Hsiao Ma Pai 21-14, 21-16

The fifth-seeded Thai had few problems against the Taiwanese in the second round.

The 18-year-old will next meet second seed Juliane Schenk of Germany in the last eight. Ratchanok defeated Schenk at this month's All-England Open on her way to the final, where she lost to Tine Baun of Denmark.

In another women's singles match, Busanan Ongbumrungpan lost 21-16, 21-18 to fourth seed Wang Shixian of China.

In the women's doubles second round, Duanganong Aroonkesorn and Kunchala Voravichitchaikul came from behind to beat Germany's Johanna Goliszewski and Birgit Michels 15-21, 21-8, 22-20 to reach the quarter-finals.

In the mixed doubles second round, Sudket Prapakamol and Kunchala Voravichitchaikul lost 12-21, 21-16, 18-21 to England's Chris Langridge and Heather Olver.

In the women's doubles second round, Serithammarak Artima and Peeraya Munkitamorn were beaten by Indonesians Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth and Rizki Amelia Pradipta 13-21, 21-17, 19-21.
