Koh Samui hosts midnight run for a cause

Koh Samui will host its first midnight run in Chaweng on the last Saturday of this month.

The ‘Koh Samui Reggae Pub Charity Midnight Run’ will take place at midnight on March 30.

Organised by the Thai Hotels Association and the Thai Association of Koh Samui, the "Koh Samui Reggae Pub Charity Midnight Run" aims to attract up to 2,000 spectators and become one of Thailand's annual sporting and social events.

Starting at midnight, the race begins at The Reggae Pub, which is situated on the banks of Chaweng Lake. It then follows the lake road, into Chaweng Beach Road, through Soi Green Mango and back onto the main road to turn right at Try Out clothes shop, then back to the lake with the finishing line at the pub.

The race will be urban, with a choice of either one loop of 5km or two loops of 10km. It is open to runners of all ages. They are expected to come from Koh Samui and from around Thailand. They can also run as a family and fancy dress is encouraged. The male and female winners of the 5km and 10km races will be awarded trophies.

Winners of each category, including family teams, and the best fancy dress will also receive prizes and trophies. Everyone who crosses the finish line will receive a special commemorative medal.

Proceeds will benefit two charities _ Koh Samui's new School for Autistic Children and The Green Project, supported by the Thai Hotels Association.

The registration fee is 800 baht for both distances (400 baht for pre-registration by today and 600 baht by March 29).
