Liverpool promise Thais 'great football'

Liverpool will not be complacent when they take on a Thai team in a pre-season match in Bangkok, manager Brendan Rodgers said on Tuesday.

"The players who went on the last tour to Thailand are really excited about going back. I've heard a lot about the passion and dedication of the fans in Thailand and we plan to bring them some great football," Rodgers said.

The Reds will play the Thai national team at Rajamangala National Stadium on July 28, which will be their fourth visit to the kingdom. Liverpool last visited Thailand in 2009.

Liverpool are one of the most popular English Premier League clubs in Thailand, despite not winning their domestic championship since 1990, with an estimated 14 million followers.

"We first went to Thailand in 2001 and this will be our fourth visit to the country, which we feel demonstrates our commitment to our fans in Thailand. Since our last visit, we have created strategic partnerships to maintain the club's presence in the region," Ian Ayre, Liverpool managing director, said.

Liverpool are seventh in the English Premier League table with 48 points from 31 matches. The team hopes for a late-season surge to secure a place in the lucrative Uefa Champions League next season.
