The 17-year-old Bangkok native shot seven-under par on Thursday to take the early lead.

Going into the weekend, Ariya is a shot ahead of Americans Stacy Lewis and Angela Stanford, both of whom had three-under scores of 68 on Friday.

Sandra Gal of Spain and Suzann Pettersen of Norway were another shot back, tied for fourth.

No other Thai golfer is challenging Ariya. The closest Thais after Friday's second round were Thidapa Suwannapura, tied for 27th place, and Ariya's older sister Moriya, with a score of 143, tied in 40th place.
