Ranked 17th in the world, the 17-year-old injured the shoulder during a practice round at the Wegmans Championship in the US last month and has since been out of action.

She returned from the US to Bangkok on Wednesday and will have surgery on Monday, her agency IMG said.

It is not yet known when Ariya will be able to return to competition but it is not likely that she will play at the Women's British Open from Aug 1-4, IMG said.

Although Ariya is a member of the Ladies European Tour, she has performed well on the LPGA Tour in her first season as a professional.

She finished in the top four in all her five LPGA tournaments this season and earned US$447,772 (about 13 million baht).

Meanwhile, Numa Gulyanamitta is the only Thai at this week's US$1.3 million Manulife Financial LPGA Classic in Ontario, Canada.
