Windstar and Fujin keep winning in Phuket

PHUKET: Yesterday's penultimate day of Phuket Raceweek was make or break for some as it was time to get some valuable points and take the challenge into the last day.

One of the stories of the regatta so far has been Sansiri (Ooh La La), which at just 23 feet is the smallest boat in the event with all Thai crew members.

Fujin, right, in action in the IRC Racing Two class.

With owner Patinyakorn Bunranrom in the US sailing at the Transpac Race, there is a new skipper and some new crew and they were consistently placing third in the biggest class of all  -  the IRC Cruising.

Yesterday's win in the category went again to Windstar which remained undefeated and looked set for the class win.

Elsewhere, a number of Aussie sailors showed their skills. Oi!, skippered by Australian Peter Ahern in the IRC Racing One scored two more first places for their fifth win out of six races.

Fujin in the IRC Racing Two, skippered by another Australian Peter Sorensen, had a clean sheet winning six from six.

In the Multihull, Twin Sharks, skippered by Briton John Newnham, scored two more wins and had a 10-point lead over another Briton Roger Kingdon's Moto Inzi.

In the Classic class, Simon Morris' Sirius returned to their winning ways ahead of Letizia, skippered by German Bernd Gundel. Sirius now sat two points clear of Atlanta with one day to go.
