His retirement came after seven unsuccessful years in the 250cc and Moto2 categories at the world championships.

Ratthapark, who took part in the world championships this year for Thai Honda PTT Gresini Racing, is replaced by Thitipong 'Ting Note' Warokorn.

Thitipong will make his Moto2 debut at the Indianapolis Grand Prix next month with Ratthapark being his coach.

"We are confident that Thitipong is ready for a new challenge at the world level," said AP Honda president Chiaki Sato.

"He could become the pride of Thailand."

He added: "As for Ratthapark, it's time for him to move forward. We believe that he can become a good coach with his experience."

Ratthapark is Thailand's first-ever competitor in the world motorcycle championships.

He competed three years in the 250cc class and four years in Moto2 which replaces the 250cc category.
