Buriram show faith in Oriol

Buriram United have appointed young Spaniard Guillermo Oriol as caretaker coach until the end of the season after Englishman Scott Cooper resigned.

Buriram manager Tatthep Pitakpoolsin on Monday confirmed Oriol as successor to Cooper, who left the club for personal reasons at the weekend.

Although the Spaniard is just 29 years old, Tatthep said this should not be a problem because he knows Buriram's culture after working at the club for a couple of months. He added that Oriol had experience in coaching as he was Cooper's assistant at Buriram and a technical trainer at Barcelona academy.

"We did not have time to look for a permanent coach so we decided to use an insider," Tatthep said.

He said Oriol's strong point was his attacking game.

Whoever is coach of Buriram may not be a big issue as club president Newin Chidchob has said he is 'head of the head coach'.

The Thunder Castle are chasing four titles this season. They are leaders in the Thai Premier League, in the semi-finals of both the FA Cup and the League Cup, and in the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League.
