Jungle to sea: entries open for adventure race with a view

After the huge success of last year's inaugural event, the exciting sport of adventure racing will be brought back to the South in the next two weeks.

The ‘Sheraton Krabi Trophy’ will take place on Sept 21. Registration should be made by Sept 17.

Held as part of the "Amazing Thailand Adventure Race Series", the "Sheraton Krabi Trophy" is a chance for people from around the world to test their athletic prowess in one of the most scenic places on the globe.

Krabi has been chosen for this mix of racing styles, which will take place on Sept 21.

The race features four disciplines _ running, cycling, kayaking and swimming. The competitors will hike and run through unspoilt jungle, paddle and swim the turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea, and cycle over hills with spectacular views of the ocean. There are two divisions to choose from: Adventure is for newcomers and weekend warriors, while Extreme, a longer and tougher course, is designed to suit more experienced racers.

The winners of the Extreme division are expected to complete the course in about four-and-a-half hours, while the fastest in the Adventure division should reach the finish line in about three-and-a-half hours.

Open to teams of two, the race will have five categories _ men, women, mixed, masters men (over 80 years combined) and seniors men (over 100 years combined).

The fee is 7,950 baht per team. Registration should be made by Sept 17.
