First Egyptian sumo wrestler soars to top flight

The first professional sumo wrestler from Africa or the Arab world continued his meteoric rise with his promotion Monday to the sport's elite division.

The Japan Sumo Association raised 21-year-old Egyptian Abdelrahman Ahmed Shaalan, who goes by the ring name of "Osunaarashi" (Great Sandstorm), to the "makuuchi" division.
