PHUKET : Thailand's Davis Cup team yesterday advanced to the second round of the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone in Group 2 after sealing a 4-1 victory over Hong Kong.
Thailand began the day with a 2-1 lead before the reverse singles.
Prachya Isarow played Phillip King in the first match and won 6-4, 6-1, 6-2.
In the second match, Thailand's Nuttanon Kanchapanan beat Ognian Kolev in a best-of-three-sets match 6-1, 2-6, 6-2.
Thailand's captain Col Kraipetch Worasombut was pleased to advance to the next round, where they will meet Kuwait in April.
``We played very well, according to our plans,'' he said. ``Prachya and Nuttanon played very well and we would like to give credit to all our players in this tournament.''
