Rookie Poom shares lead in Chiang Rai

Rookie Poom Saksansin joined a three-way lead after three rounds at the 15th Singha Masters in Chiang Rai yesterday.

Poom Saksansin shot a third-round 66 yesterday.

Poom, who turned professional last month, fired a six-under-par 66 to share the lead on 203 with Chapchai Nirat (68) and overnight co-leader Poosit Supupramai (70).

"I am happy with my performance," said 20-year-old Poom who represented Thailand at the SEA Games in Myanmar in December.

"My only mistake was a bad chip at the ninth hole."Poom, who got an Asian Tour card last week in Hua Hin, said that he was in good form and that it would be nice to win the title in the only second tournament of his professional career.

But he was cautious about his chance in Chiang Rai, saying he would not put too much pressure on himself.

"There are a lot of good players behind me. I cannot underestimate them," Poom who shared 40th place at the King's Cup in Hua Hin last month in his professional debut.

Pavit Tangkramolprasert (71) was a stroke behind on 204 while evergreen Boonchu Ruangkit fired a 70 for 207.

Veteran Thaworn Wiratchant, who is looking for his second title here, suffered a 74 for 208. He was tied for eighth with Prom Meesawat (66), Arnond Vongvanij (70) and Phachara Khongwatmai (70).

Four-time winner Prayad Marksaeng was joint 13th after a 69.

On the women's side, Chiang Rai native Porani Chutichai posted a 69 for 212 to take a one-shot lead into the final round.

One stroke behind was overnight leader Rungthiwa Pangjan who soared to a 76.
