Pungluang to challenge champion Tomoki in May

Pungluang Sor Singyu stands a chance to win back the WBO bantamweight title when he takes on unbeaten champion Tomoki Kameda in a mandatory fight in May, his handlers said yesterday.

The top contender in the 118-pound division, Pungluang (46-2, 31KOs) has been confirmed to challenge the Japanese title-holder in the US.

``We have agreed to fight in the US,'' said Pungluang's manager Pariyakorn Rattanasuban from OneSongchai Promotion.

``It will be held in early May but the venue has not yet been determined.'' she said.

Tomoki, 22, is the youngest among the Kameda brothers.

Koki, 27, is the WBA bantamweight title-holder while Daiki holds the IBF super-flyweight title.

Tomoki has won all his 29 fights including 18 knockouts.

Pariyakorn said Pungluang, the WBO international bantamweight champion, would be at his peak for the fight.

``It will be a good chance for Pungluang to win back the title and make a name in the US.''

The 25-year-old Thai claimed the title by stopping AJ Banal in the ninth round to win the vacant WBO bantamweight title in the Philippines in October 2012.

Five months later, he lost to Paulus Ambunda in Namibia in his first defence.

Ambunda then was toppled by Tomoki in the Philippines in August.

Tomoki was successful in the first defence with a decision win over Immanuel Naidjala in Japan in December.
