Thailand to face Lebanon next week

Thailand's last Asian Cup qualifier against Lebanon next week will take place at Rajamangala National Stadium, Thai FA president Worawi Makudi said yesterday.

The match is scheduled on Wednesday at 7pm.

Both teams have been eliminated but Thailand will be trying to get their first point of the qualifying campaign.

Thailand coach Kiatisak Senamuang has called up 23 players for the game but they will only begin training together on Monday after their club assignments at the weekend.

Meanwhile, Piyakul Kaewnumkang has been appointed coach of the national women's team, succeeding Jatuporn Pramolban who has resigned.

The team's main task this year is the Women's Asian Cup in Ho Chi Minh City from May 14-25.

The top five teams from the tournament will advance to the World Cup finals to be held in Canada next year.

Thailand, who have never played at the World Cup, are in Group B along with South Korea, China and Myanmar.

The top two teams of each of the two groups get tickets to the World Cup. The second-placed teams of each group will meet in a play-off for the remaining berth.
