Singhtarua move into top spot

Komenan fires hat-trick and Chananan scores twice as Osotspa steamroll Songkhla 7-0

Singhtarua moved into the top spot of the Thai Premier League last night after securing a 1-0 home win over Suphanburi.

South Korea’s Joo Sung-Hwan scored after 16 minutes as the promoted side were three points ahead of Ratchaburi after seven games.

However, Ratchaburi will regain the lead with a win at Si Sa Ket today.

At PAT Stadium, Singhtarua, formerly Thai Port, were the better side throughout the match.

Thanks to a pass from captain Kiatjaroen Ruangparn, Joo beat an offside trap and hit the decisive goal.

At Rajamangala Stadium, hosts Osotspa M-150 Saraburi enjoyed a scoring spree in their 7-0 win over Songkhla United with Anthony Komenan making a hat-trick.

Osotspa’s Anthony Komenan, left, scored a hat-trick against Songkhla.

Chananan Pombupha was on target twice and Aron da Silva and Datano Hiromichi each scored a goal.

In a match between relegation contenders, hosts Bangkok United lost 1-0 to Police United.

Wisarut Phannasri scored the winning goal after 61 minutes to the relief of his coach, former Thailand boss Carlos Roberto Carvalho, who reportedly could be sacked if his men failed to get a result yesterday.

Chainat beat TOT 2-0 thanks to second-half goals from Arthit Sunthornphit and Sumanya Purisay.

In yesterday’s other match, Air Force squandered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with PTT Rayong.

In today’s action, in-form Ratchaburi, who drew with champions Buriram United and defeated SCG Muang Thong United earlier in the campaign, should have few problems against Si Sa Ket.

Buriram were undefeated when they won the title last season but have already lost twice and are 11th this term.

The Thunder Castle will be trying to put their campaign back on track when they host bottom club Samut Songkhram whose coach Somchai Chuayboonchum quit recently.

Muang Thong parted company with coach Scott Cooper last week after the Kirins suffered two consecutive setbacks including a 2-1 defeat at home to Ratchaburi who scored their two goals after they were reduced to 10 men.

Muang Thong, under caretaker coach Pol Chomchuen, face a tricky home match against Bangkok Glass, who are third on 12 points, one ahead of Muang Thong.
