Thongchai enjoying Masters weekend

Augusta, Georgia - Thongchai Jaidee fired a 75 on Saturday at the Masters to be six-over for the tournament in Augusta, but he is happy to be playing the weekend and promoting golf in Thailand.

Thongchai tees off on the third hole in Saturday's third round of the Masters.

Thongchai tees off at 10:10pm Sunday for the final round of the Masters.

"Golf in Thailand is very much improved," said Thongchai, of Lop Buri. "In the juniors there's a lot of people coming up, we play everywhere in the world and they follow us.

"They want to see how they can improve, how you can play in a major. That's the most important thing in the country, to improve for the new generation."

Though Thongchai speaks of a new generation, the 44-year-old is still younger than some who have thrived at this Masters such as Fred Couples and Miguel Angel Jimenez.

"At the Masters the more you play, the more you have the memory of how to play the course but you have to use it on the greens," Thongchai said. "I saw Fred Couples playing very well, he never misses the cut when he plays here. It's amazing."

Thongchai has 13 career victories on the Asian Tour and with five on the European tour, he has shown he can compete with some of the best players in the game.

But making the cut at the Masters is still an achievement to be proud of for him.

"I was very happy to make the cut and on Sunday I will have the same plan, hit the ball in the fairway, and hit more greens."
