Kiradech poised to return after illness

Reigning Asian Tour No.1 Kiradech Aphibarnrat will play at this week's Indonesia Masters despite pulling out of last week's Malaysia Open due to illness.

The 24-year-old withdrew in the second round of the Malaysian Open because of tonsillitis.

Although he is not fully fit, it was confirmed yesterday that he will take part in the US$750,000 tournament which tees of on Thursday at Royale Jakarta Golf Club Indonesia.

"He is not 100 percent fit yet but he is recovering well," said his manager Pimporn Rojsattarat.

"With three days to go, he will be fine to play. But it is not certain if he will join the pro-am on Wednesday.''

The world No.78 will leave for Indonesia today and will tonight receive the 2013 Asian Tour Order of Merit award.

Joining him at the tournamet are 18 Thais including Thongchai Jaidee, Thaworn Wiratchant, Prayad Marksaeng and Thitiphun Chuayprakrong.

World No.54 Thongchai was runner-up in 2011 when Thitiphun shared third place.

Thongchai is approaching the tournament in a confident mood after his recent good form at the Masters and the Malaysian Open.

He and Thaworn are also among five candidates who are vying for the Player of the Decade award to be announced tonight.

Thitiphun, 22, said that it was a long time since he played well at the tournament and hoped his experience would boost his confidence.

In the 2011 edition, Thitiphun played in the final round with eventual champion Lee Westwood, who won in Malaysia on Sunday.

"I am in good shape now," said the golfer, who will play in his fourth Asian Tour event this year. "It is a big tournament and I want to get a good result."
