Chairman Newin vows to guide Thunder Castle to a clean sweep of domestic titles

Buriram United will concentrate on the domestic front after they were eliminated in the AFC Champions League in midweek.

Buriram chairman Newin Chidchob.

The Thunder Castle drew 0-0 at South Korea’s Pohang Steelers to finish third in Group E of the AFC Champions League behind the Koreans and Japan’s Cerezo Osaka.

Buriram chairman Newin Chidchob has vowed to lead his team to sweep all local titles in a repeat of last season’s achievement.

“From now, we will focus on retaining the domestic titles,” he said.

However, Buriram face a tough task at home to unbeaten Chonburi in the Thai Premier League tomorrow.

Buriram won all three domestic titles — the TPL, FA Cup, League Cup —  last season but they are 13th with 10 points in the league this term.

While Buriram are just three points above the relegation zone, Chonburi are one of the two undefeated teams so far.

The Sharks, under Japanese coach Masahiro Wada, are third on 17 points, three behind joint leaders SCG Muang Thong United and Singhtarua.

Wada said: “Playing Buriram is always tough. It is tougher because
we will have to play at their home. They will want to bounce back from the AFC Champions League setback. We will try our best to get at least a point.”

Chonburi goalkeeper Sinthaweechai Hathairattanakool said he was glad that his former teammate Suree Sukha was unavailable for Buriram tomorrow because of a shoulder injury.

“He is a good and dangerous player,” the Thailand goalkeeper said.

“But his absence may not weaken Buriram because they have a lot of good players.”

In today’s action, surprise package Singhtarua are at Police United who parted company with former Thailand coach Carlos Roberto Carvalho this week.

Muang Thong should continue their revival under caretaker coach Pol Chomchuen when the Kirins travel to relegation-threatened Samut Songkhram tomorrow.

Pol has guided Muang Thong to three successive wins after English coach Scott Cooper left the club a few weeks ago.
