Having won the German 400m freestyle national title on Friday in his first race since the 2012 London Olympics, Biedermann won the 100m final in 48.31secs, the fifth fastest time in the world this year.

"That was a great race and I am noticing that with every performance a weight is lifted off my shoulders," said Biedermann who missed the 2013 season and last year's world championships in Barcelona because of a virus.

Having claimed the 37th national title of his career, the 27-year-old will be looking to claim a hat-trick for the weekend in Sunday's 200m freestyle final.

Biedermann is now hoping to continue his form at the forthcoming European championships to be staged in Berlin in August.
