Punters expected to wager B43bn on World Cup matches

Thais are expected to spend nearly 70 billion baht, more than half of it gambling on results, while following the World Cup 2014 tournament in Brazil, according to a survey by the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTTC). 

Thanavath Phonvichai, director of the university’s economic and business forecast centre, said spending was projected to be 16% higher than for the last World Cup four years ago.
