Muang Thong and BEC remain locked in battle for first place after both record wins

Joint leaders SCG Muang Thong United and BEC Tero Sasana both won in the Thai Premier League yesterday.

Muang Thong’s Jay Bothroyd, left.

Muang Thong secured a 1-0 home win against TOT in the final moments, and BEC sealed a 3-2 victory at Suphanburi.

Former BEC striker Cleiton Silva made his debut for Muang Thong while Teerasil Dangda, who will join Spanish club Almeria, started on the bench.

Silva, who had an unsuccessful spell in Mexico before returning to Thailand, had several chances but failed to beat TOT goalkeeper Weera Kerdputsa.

As the game seemed to be heading for a draw, Jay Bothroyd’s pass found Wuthichai Tathong, who made no mistake from close range.

TOT’s Suriya Kalaplang was sent off for pushing Datsakorn Thonglao just before the final whistle.

BEC, the only unbeaten side this term, went ahead after just eight minutes through Jaturong Pimkool only for Robert Cullen to equalise two minutes later.

In the second half, BEC raced to a 3-1 lead with goals from Sho Shimoji and Naruepol Arom-sawa, and Diouf Bireme cut the deficit to 3-2. Bottom club Samut Songkhram lost 2-0 to Bangkok Glass with Goshi Okubo and Praweenawat Boonyong on target.

Air Force drew 1-1 with Police United with Totsapol Yodjan scoring for Police (45) and Norihiro Nishi equalising for Air Force (49).
