Liverpool complete move for midfielder Emre Can

LONDON - Liverpool have officially completed the signing of midfielder Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusen, the Premier League side confirmed Thursday.

Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can celebrates a goal against Eintracht Frankfurt in a Bundesliga match in Frankfurt am Main, western Germany, on May 3, 2014

Liverpool had agreed a pound sterling10million (12.5m euros, $17m) deal for the Germany Under-21 international last month but had to wait until the transfer window opened on July 1 to finalise the move.

"I am proud to be a part of the family and I am looking forward to playing here. I will give it my best," Can, 20, told liverpoolfc.com.

"LFC is a great club and the fans are amongst the best in the world.

"I am looking forward to the first game and can't wait to step on the pitch for the first time at Anfield."

Can is the third player to join Liverpool this summer after the arrival of Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana from Southampton.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers, who admitted tracking Can for some time, said his performances in the Bundesliga and Champions League had left him impressed and convinced the club to acquire the midfielder's services.

"Emre is an exciting young talent and I'm delighted he's chosen Liverpool for the next phase of his development and growth as a player," Rodgers said.

"He has recognised that we are a club that improves and nurtures exciting, ambitious players and I'm looking forward to seeing him take those next steps forward for us."
