Teerasil relishing new Almeria challenge

Thailand striker Teerasil Dangda says he is ready to play for Spanish club Almeria.

Teerasil Dangda, centre left, with Almeria and Muang Thong executives earlier this year.

The SCG Muang Thong United star will play for the La Liga club in a season-long loan deal.

The 26-year-old was on the bench and did not play in Muang Thong’s 1-0 home loss to Buriram United in the League Cup quarter-final second leg on Wednesday.

Muang Thong were eliminated after a scoreless draw at I-Mobile Stadium in the first leg.

After Wednesday’s match, Teerasil said goodbye to Muang Thong fans who gave him a standing ovation.

"I am happy to play for Muang Thong and I will do my best at Almeria,’’ Teerasil told the crowd at SCG Stadium.

"It will be an important spell of my career. If I do well in Spain, it will give other Thai players chances to play in Europe in the future.

"I am still Muang Thong’s player and I will come back here after my stint in Spain.’’

Teerasil, who scored nine goals for Muang Thong in the Thai Premier League this season, is expected to leave for Spain in the next few days.

Teerasil joined Muang Thong in 2009 and has helped the club win the TPL title three times. He was the league’s top scorer in 2012 with 24 goals.

Teerasil trained with La Liga champions Atletico Madrid last year. He was a Manchester City player a few years ago when former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra owned the club.
