The International Boxing Association (Aiba) announced on its website the bidding results for Rio Olympic qualifying tournaments after its executive committee meetings in Istanbul last week.

Under president Pichai Chunhavajira, the TBA lost in two bids for a world-level qualifying event and an Asia/Oceania qualifying tournament.

The former was won by Baku, Azerbaijan and the latter will be staged in Qian’an, China.

Last year, the TBA also lost in a bid to host the 2015 World Championships, also an Olympic qualifying event.

The failure will certainly affect Thai boxers’ attempts to win Olympic spots.

The Thai boxing team suffered a blow at the 2012 Olympics when it could only bring home one silver, having won a gold medal in each Olympics from 1996-2008.
