Thongchai hopes to shrug off injury

Thongchai Jaidee hopes to recover from his arm injury before teeing off at the PGA Championship tomorrow.

Thongchai injured his right arm midway through the third round of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, where he finished tied 52nd last week.

He still felt pain and could not control the ball during a practice round at the Valhalla Golf Club, the venue for this week's US$10 million tournament.

Thongchai, 44, will play at the PGA Championship for the eighth time and it is his fourth major this year. His best previous finish is a joint 36th in 2009.

It is also the second time in his career he will play all the four majors in the same year. The first time was in 2010.

Kiradech Aphibarnrat will also join Thongchai at the final major of the year thanks to the exemption from the PGA Tour. It will be his second appearance at the tournament after sharing 25th last year.

"I am really thankful to PGA of America in giving me a chance to play," he said. "I will play as best as I can."

Kiradech hasn't performed well in the US so far. However, he said that with the course suitable to his game, he should be able to deliver good results soon.

"The course condition suits my game. It is challenging," he said.

Kiradech, ranked 116th in the world, had struggled with his swing in the last six months but it has improved lately.

"I would really love to do well again at this year's PGA Championship," he said.

In the first two rounds, Thongchai will play alongside KJ Choi of South Korea and Brian Harman of US while Kiradech is paired with Americans Cameron Tringale and Scott Piercy.
