Kirins bid to end Buriram jinx

SCG Muang Thong United will be trying to get their first ever win against Buriram United when they meet in the Thai Premier League tonight.

Captain Datsakorn Thonglao, centre, will lead Muang Thong against Buriram tonight.

Third-placed Muang Thong, who are four points off the pace, need a home win against leaders Buriram to put their title chase back on track.

Muang Thong and Buriram are relatively new teams who were only established a few years ago but have since become Thailand's football powerhouses.

Muang Thong assistant coach Pol Chomchuen said: "Although we have never beaten Buriram, we have a healthy squad and could end our winless streak against them."

Dragan Talajic, who was appointed Muang Thong coach a few weeks ago, has been criticised for his failure to revive the Kirins' fortunes but Pol said he had confidence in his boss.

Muang Thong will be led by captain Datsakorn Thonglao.

Buriram are also at full strength, although Spanish midfielder Carmelo Gonzalez has been suspended indefinitely by the Football Association of Thailand.

"I believe our undefeated run against Muang Thong will continue," manager Thadthep Pitakpoolsin said.

Thadthep said the club would today file a suit with the administrative court in Gonzalez's case.

"We want the court to consider if the punishment is fair or not," he said.

Gonzalez was sent off in a League Cup match and has been suspended from every competition until at least the end of the season.

The FAT says the Spaniard kicked the ball in the direction of the referee but Buriram argues that the punishment is too harsh.
