In the men's individual event, Danthai posted a two-under-par 70 in the second round for 137 yesterday with three birdies and one bogey at Zhongshan International Golf Club.
The 18-year-old Thai was one stroke behind leader Viktor Hovland of Norway who fired a 68 for 136 in the 54-hole competition.
Marcus Kinhult of Sweden (72) and Brett Coletta of Australia (72) were joint third on 138.
Danthai, who won two gold medals at last year's SEA Games, said he did not putt well at the start of the second round and would play aggressively in today's final round.
"I hope to have a good final round to catch the leader," he said
Danthai has fond memories of the Zhongshan course where he finished third at last year's Youth Asian Games.
In the women's individual event, Supamas made six birdies in a bogey-free round for 139.
She was tied for second along with Cheng Ssu-Chia of Taiwan and was two strokes behind Lee So Young of South Korea who hit a 68 for 137.
Rangsrid Luxitanonda, president of the Thailand Golf Association, said that both had been in good form this year and should win medals.
"They are our best hopes," Rangsrid said.
