World No.9 Porntip, who was seeded 10th, lost to Hong Kong-born Canadian Michelle Li 22-20, 18-21, 11-21.

On Tuesday, world No.13 Nichaon Jindapon was defeated by Indonesia’s Lindaweni Fanetri 21-15, 13-21, 9-21 in the women’s second round.

With their defeats and Busanan Ongbamrungphan’s withdrawal, defending champion and world No.6 Ratchanok Intanon is the only Thai left in the women’s event.

Ratchanok will meet world No.15 Minatsu Mitani of Japan in the third round (last 16) on Thursday.

Ratchanok is 2-0 against the Japanese but the Thai is not at full strength as she got ill just before the tournament.

Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk was also the only Thai left in the men’s singles. He was scheduled to meet Ajay Jayaram of India in the second round on Wednesday night.

In the men’s doubles, 16th seeds Maneepong Jongjit and Nipitphon Puangpuapech were upset by unseeded Germans Michael Fuchs and Johannes Schoettler 19-21, 21-19, 15-21.

Wannawat Ampunsuwan and Patiphat Chalardchaleam booked their place in the third round after their opponents in the second round, top seeded Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia, withdrew due to injury.

In the women’s doubles, Duanganong Aroonkesorn and Kunchala Voravichitchaikul defeated Johanna Goliszewski and Birgit Michels of Germany 20-22, 21-19, 21-14 to reach the third round.

Meanwhile, Chen Long eased his way into the second round on Tuesday with a routine victory over Austrian Luka Wraber.

Chinese second seed Chen is carrying the burden of his country’s expectations with five-time world champion Lin Dan out of the equation in Denmark and the 25-year-old produced a solid performance to dismantle Wraber 21-8, 21-10.

Chen’s patchy form has restricted the world No.2 to just one title, the Korean Open in January, this season but the Chinese are pinning their hopes on him to maintain the country’s dominance in the men’s singles with a seventh straight title.

Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto never looked in trouble against Singapore’s Zi Liang Derek Wong as the fifth seed recorded a 21-12, 21-14 victory to take the first step in his quest to emulate his father, Icuk, who won the world title in the Danish capital in 1983.
