Thailand have never claimed a podium finish in golf at the Asian Games but this time they aim to take home three medals.

Thai golfers will try to win a historic medal in Incheon.

Seven Thai golfers will take part in the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea from Sept 19-Oct 4.

They are Natipong Srithong, Tawan Pongpan, Kasidit Lepkrut and Danthai Boonma in the men's competition, and Supamas Saengjan, Busabakorn Sukhapan and Benyapa Nipatsophon in the women's category.

Thailand have never won an Asian Games medal in golf but they are brimming with confidence that this will be their time.

Under coach Nithinan Hensirisakul, the players have trained together for months.

"I am satisfied with their preparations,'' said Nithinan. "Everyone is fit and ready. We also get help from the Sports Authority of Thailand on the psychological side and in sports science.''

But the coach is worried that the weather at Dream Park Golf Club could be too cold and too windy for his players.

"The course is not long and results could be decided on the green,'' he said.

Thailand Golf Association president Rangsrid Luxitanonda said that South Korean and Japanese players might be at an advantage regarding the weather and course conditions.

"But our players have chances to win medals if they can putt well and stay focused,'' he said. "We should get at least three medals.''

The team will leave for South Korea on Sept 21, and the golf tournament is scheduled from Sept 25-28.
