Morneau added to Major League Baseball tour team

NEW YORK - Colorado slugger Justin Morneau has been added to the Major League Baseball team which will play a five-game series against a squad of Japanese all-stars in November.

Justin Morneau (R) of the Colorado Rockies is congratulated by teammate Rafael Ynoa after hitting a two-run home run in the third inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium on September 26, 2014

The 33-year-old Canadian captured the National League batting title this year, hitting .319 for the Rockies.

The MLB squad also named Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper and Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros for their tour of Japan.

The three players will be part of a team that already includes Seattle's Robinson Cano, Baltimore's Adam Jones, the Los Angeles Angels' Albert Pujols and the Los Angeles Dodgers' Yasiel Puig.

Boston's John Farrell will be the manager of the Americans. He replaced Ron Washington, who had initially been selected as the skipper in August before resigning in September as manager of the Texas Rangers.

It will mark the 11th All-Star series and the 36th time overall that a team of MLB players will tour Japan.

The opening series game will take place in Osaka on November 12.
