Thailand lose and miss out on U20 World Cup berth

Thailand missed out on a World Cup place after losing 2-1 to Uzbekistan in the AFC U19 Championship quarter-finals in Myanmar on Friday night.

Zabikhillo Urinboev scored twice for the Central Asian side after six and 20 minutes while Chenrop Samphaodi gave Thailand a ray of hope in the 47th minute.

With four spots for Asia, the winners in yesterday’s quarter-finals earned berths for next year’s U20 World Cup in New Zealand.

Myanmar, Qatar and North Korea also secured World Cup places after Friday's wins.

Thailand are still chasing their first ever U20 World Cup spot.

Earlier, Thailand coach Sasom Pobprasert complained that his team had many problems.

He said a key player returned to play for his club in the Thai Premier League in midweek and only rejoined the squad in Yangon on Friday.
