TPL awaitspolice report

The Thai Premier League will wait for police reports before taking action in the fight between fans of SCG Muang Thong United and Singhtarua.

The TPL disciplinary committee yesterday had talks with Muang Thong and Singhtarua representatives after Saturday's violence outside SCG Stadium following Muang Thong's 3-1 win against their fierce rivals.

Committee chairm Narat Sawektanand said the panel had asked Pak Kret police for information before considering action.

The committee wants to know which side started the brawl which injured several people among other issues, he said.

Muang Thong director Ronnarit Suewaja said he did not want to blame anyone but wanted to prevent a recurrence of such an incident.

"We don't want football hooligans. We don't want such an incident to happen again,'' he said.

"Such an incident will affect Thai football and cause trouble for concerned parties. All concerned parties in this case must help.''

Singhtarua adviser Phaitoon Thongkum said the club would shoulder responsibility if it was found that its fans were guilty.

Matches between Muang Thong and Singhtarua have often been hit by trouble on and off the pitch over the years.

However, observers said Saturday's match was smooth without dubious calls by the referee.

With four matches to go this season, Muang Thong have urged their fans not to travel with the team to away games and fans of other clubs not to watch their teams play at SCG Stadium to avoid further problems.
