Pacesetters Chonburi focus on Bangkok United as TPL title race nears finish line

Leaders Chonburi are cautious about their chances of winning the Thai Premier League title.

Jules Braga, right, will lead Chainat's attack against Buriram today.

The Sharks, who are one point ahead of champions Buriram United with three matches to go, will be at home to Bangkok United today.

Chonburi coach Mashahiro Wada said yesterday his team would focus on one match at a time.

"We cannot underestimate any opponents. We cannot afford any slip-ups as Buriram cannot be overlooked,'' said the Japanese coach.

"We have to focus on ourselves and play with spirit and team work. I am confident that we will beat Bangkok United because we will be playing at home.''

Chonburi last won the title in 2007 and have since finished second four times.

Buriram have dropped five points in their previous two games, drawing 2-2 with Osotspa after conceding a late equaliser and losing 2-0 at Bangkok United.

But they are not yet ready to throw in the towel.

"We are in a difficult situation and fate is not in our hands," said Buriram manager Thadthep Pitakpoolsin.

"We cannot afford any more slip-ups in the last three matches. But I still believe we can do it and retain the title."

Buriram will today host Chinat who aim to dash their title hopes.

"We will get at least one point at I-Mobile Stadium,'' said Chainat coach Jadet Meelarp.

The Hornbills are at full strength with only one player unavailable, South Korea's Park Jung-Soo, who is suspended.

They welcome back forwards Jules Baga, Borce Manevski and Nikola Nikezic who will form a three-prong attack.

Singhtarua are in danger of making a quick return to League One as they and SCG Muang United will be deducted nine points each at the end of the season after a violent fight between their fans following last Saturday's match.

The TPL handed them the punishment last week and upheld the decision on Friday after considering appeals from both sides.

Singhtarua, formerly Thai Port, will go to Army. Samut Songkhram have already booked one of the five relegation tickets.
