Record club win tally as Ceni dethrones Giggs

SAO PAULO - Sao Paulo goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni racked up a world record 590th victory for his club Sao Paulo in the league late Monday, beating the old mark of Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs.

A 3-0 success over Goias gave Ceni, 41, another record to add to his mark of 123 goals, the most scored by a 'keeper.

Ceni has been on Sao Paulo's books for 24 years and also holds the record for games played for one club -- Monday's appearance was his 1,135th for Sao Paulo -- 928 as captain.

"Any player who stays at a club 20 years can rack up the statistics. I owe it to God, my friends and the team that I've always had this desire to win, said Ceni, while recognizing that "when you get to this point you know you're getting old".
