In-form Prom to play at two Thai tournaments

In-form Prom Meesawat will play in next month's Chiangmai Golf Classic and December's Thailand Golf Championship.

The US$750,000 Chiangmai Golf Classic will be held at Alpine Golf Resort from Nov 13-16 and the $1 million Thailand Golf Championship at Chonburi's Amata Spring Country Club from Dec 11-14.

Both events are sanctioned by the Asian Tour.

Apart from Prom, reigning Asian Tour No.1 Kiradech Aphibarnrat will be among other Thais at the Chiangmai Golf Classic.

However, Thongchai Jaidee, Thailand's top player, will not be available because he will play in Turkey in the European Tour's Final Series.

Thai veteran Prayad Marksaeng has opted to play in Japan.

However, a number of international stars will take part in the event including major champions Jason Dufner and Charl Schwartzel, and defending champion Scott Hend of Australia.

Prom ended his eight-year title drought in Taiwan with his second win on the Asian Tour last month.

Nicknamed the Big Dolphin due to his burly physique, Prom finished in a tie for second in Macau last week.

Prom will play in the Thailand Golf Championship along with compatriots Thongchai and Kiradech.

"The Thailand Golf Championship is my home event, so it's one of my most important of the year," said Prom.

"To win at Amata Spring would be the best moment of my career."

Meanwhile, Arniban Lahiri has set his sights on victory at the Thailand Golf Championship.

Lahiri, who captured last week's Macau Open, has climbed to No.69 in the world rankings and is currently second on the Asian Tour Order of Merit, a shade under $155,000 behind David Lipsky of the US.

A strong performance at the Thailand Golf Championship, the Asian Tour's flagship event, would aid the 27-year-old Indian ace in achieving two of his season's goals — win the money title and break into the world's top 50 for the first time.

"The Thailand Golf Championship is such a big event, there's so much at stake," said Lahiri, who has won five Asian Tour events.

"The world ranking points on offer at Amata Spring are crucial, so to have a big week there would be great for my career and would definitely help me achieve my goals for the year."

Lahiri finished in a tie for fourth behind winner Sergio Garcia at the 2013 edition will face strong opposition in his quest to finish three spots higher this time around.

Garcia will return to defend his title and will be joined by Ryder Cup teammates Martin Kaymer, Lee Westwood and Victor Dubuisson.

Two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson, South African legend Ernie Els and 2011 British Open champion Darren Clarke are also included in the star-studded field.
