All set for Honda LPGA event

The 2015 Honda LPGA Thailand will again be held at Siam Country Club in Pattaya from Feb 26-March 1, organisers said yesterday.

Organisers of the Honda LPGA Thailand at yesterday's press conference.

The ninth edition of Thailand's premier women's golf tournament will be at the Old Course as the club will host the event for a seventh time.

The 70-player tournament is for the top 60 players on the money list plus 10 qualifiers and sponsor exemptions.

The total purse of the 2015 edition is US$1.5 million with the winner taking home $225,000.

It will be the fourth event of the 2015 LPGA Tour season after the Coates Golf Champioship (Jan 28-31), Pure Silk Bahamas (Feb 5-8) and Australian Open (Feb 19-22).

Palakorn Somsuwan, from organiser Channel 7, said the LPGA had extended its partnership with the TV station for another five years.

"The 2015 tournament will again be a success,'' he said.

"We will do our best to make the tournament meet the highest standard.''

Pitak Pruittisarkorn, COO of Honda Automobile (Thailand), said his firm had sponsored the tournament since its first edition.

"The tournament has attracted a lot of big-name players over the years,'' he said.

"It has also helped promote the country particularly when it was hit by political problems.

"Hosting such a big tournament helps boost foreign investors' confidence in the country.''

Apart from being the title sponsor, Honda will also give a Honda CR-V for a hole-in-one at the par-three 16th hole, Pitak said.

Pitak said his company had signed a new three-year contract with Channel 7 for Honda to be the tournament's title sponsor until 2017.

Last year, the title was won by Sweden's Anna Nordquist, who took a three-stroke victory.
