Kompany out of Man City's Sunderland trip

LONDON - Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany will miss his side's Premier League trip to Sunderland on Wednesday due to a hamstring problem, manager Manuel Pellegrini revealed on Tuesday.

The Belgium international sustained the injury towards the end of City's 3-0 win at Southampton on Sunday and is due to undergo tests to determine the full extent of the problem.

"With Vincent Kompany, we'll know this afternoon (Tuesday) exactly what he has," Pellegrini told a press conference. "He has an injury in his hamstring, but we'll see how long it will be."

With Eliaquim Mangala suspended following his dismissal at Southampton, right-back Bacary Sagna or fringe player Dedryck Boyata could be asked to play alongside Martin Demichelis in central defence.

"We have Dedryck Boyata. He is working very well," said Pellegrini, whose side are currently in second place in the table, six points below leaders Chelsea.

"We have also Martin Demichelis, we have Bacary Sagna. So we have three options. We will see tomorrow (Wednesday) which two of them will play."

Matija Nastasic is not an option to fill in at centre-back due to a thigh injury, while playmaker David Silva (knee), striker Edin Dzeko (calf) and left-back Aleksandar Kolarov (calf) are all currently sidelined.
