Austria's Reichelt wins Beaver Creek super-G

Austria's Hannes Reichelt won the Beaver Creek World Cup super-G Saturday, topping Olympic champion Kjetil Jansrud, who had his three-race winning streak snapped.

Hannes Reichelt of Austria reacts as he arrives in the finish of the the Audi FIS World Cup Men's Super G Race on the Birds of Prey course on December 6, 2014 in Beaver Creek, Colorado

It was the first super-G win for Reichelt since he captured the Hinterstoder race on his home snow in February 2011 and the eighth World Cup victory of his career.

He finished the 1,850 metre course in one minute, 12.78 seconds, denying runner-up Jansrud a fourth consecutive win.

"After the race yesterday I was very angry with myself," said Reichelt who finished eighth in Friday's downhill. "I have lost all the time in one section. That anger helped me to be more aggressive."

Jansrud clocked 1:13.30 while France's Alexis Pinturault placed third in 1:13.40.

Jansrud won back-to-back speed races in Lake Louise last week and followed up with his downhill win on Friday. He said he had nothing to complain of in his runner-up finish.

"The day you are disappointed in second place is the day you have too much arrogance," said Jansrud.

Jansrud, who also won bronze in the downhill at the Sochi Winter Games in February, has been the most dominant men's skier on the World Cup circuit and is leading in the overall points standings.

"I went for the fourth win and it would have been amazing," he said. "I didn't ski solid on top. I could have skied more aggressively. From the middle part I felt very good with no major mistakes. It has been a great weekend."

Pinturault reached the 24th podium of his career and third in super-G.

"I pushed as hard as I can on the tracks and it worked well today," he said.

Peter Fill place fourth in a time of 1:13.44 and his Italian compatriot Dominik Paris was fifth in 1:13.60.

Three of the first six super-G skiers out of the gate did not finish their runs Saturday, including Canada's Manny Osborne-Paradis who finished second in the Lake Louise downhill.

Racing continues at Beaver Creek on Sunday with a giant slalom.

One of the most anticipated dates on the World Cup calendar this season is the FIS Alpine World Championships which take place in Beaver Creek and Vail, Colorado, next February 2-15.
