Phatthalung stunned hot favourites Surat Thani to win the men’s 4x100m relay title at the 43rd National Games in Nakhon Ratchasima yesterday.

The Phatthalung team of Chanathip Rakburi, Attawut Kaewkunthong, Puripat Kaijan and Apisit Promkaew comfortably beat Surat Thani, led by Jirapong Meenapra, the 100m champion at last year’s SEA Games and the current National Games.
Phatthalung clocked 40.88sec ahead of silver medallists Surat Thani, who timed 40.99sec.
It is the southern province’s first ever gold medal in the discipline at the National Games.
Suphan Buri’s Wanlapa Phansungnern won the women’s 100m hurdles title.
“This is a historic gold medal of our province,’’ said Apisit.
“We are proud to have done it. We were underdogs but our team work was superior.’’
Surat Thani claimed gold in the women’s 4x100m relay in 45.82sec.
In the men’s 110m hurdles, Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Jumrat Rithidej easily took gold in 14.12sec.
Suphan Buri’s Wanlapa Phansungnern crossed the line in 14.04sec to take gold in the women’s 100m hurdles.
Bunthueng Srisang of Buri Ram won gold in the men’s 5,000m in 14:58.15min while Nattayan Thanaronnawat of Lamphun won the women’s title in 18:15.71min.
Si Sa Ket’s Nitaya Thongdee set a new record of 9.25m to win gold in the women’s shot put, while Bangkok’s Kittipong Boonmawan got gold in the men’s hammer throw with an effort of 57.61m.
In shooting, Suphan Buri’s Attapol Euearee won two gold medals in the men’s air rifle prone individual and team events.
Thanachaporn Chaowitayangkul of Chiang Mai won the women’s 10m air pistol title but the team title went to Suphan Buri.
In cross country cycling, Thawatchai Jeeradechatham of Bangkok won gold in 57:24.19min and Amnat Charoen’s Supaksorn Nantana won the women’s title in 55:38.28min.
