The three-million-baht Boonchu Ruangkit Championship will take place at Rancho Charnvee Resort and Country Club from Jan 8-11.

It will be the penultimate event on the 2014 All Thailand Golf Tour and will be sanctioned by the Asian Development Tour (ADT).

The 58-year-old, dubbed the 'Godfather of Asian Golf', said he was proud to see a tournament held to honour his achievement.

"I am happy that we got enough sponsors to make this happen,'' said Boonchu, who has won five Asian Tour titles and five European Senior Tour crowns.

"I am happy to have a tournament for our golfers to hone their skills. Hopefully, it can become a regular event on the tour and become bigger in the coming years."

The tournament will feature 40 foreign players of Boonchu's generation, who still play actively, plus some of Thailand's top stars, including Prayad Marksaeng and Kiradech Aphibarnrat.

Boonchu said that he would focus on the senior tours in Europe and Japan.

"I will not play much on the Asian Tour because it is too tough for me to play against young golfers,'' he said.

This week, Boonchu will play at the Asian Tour's season-ending Dubai Open.

In another development, Thongchai Jaidee moved up to 39th in the world after sharing sixth at the Thailand Golf Championship on Sunday.

England's Lee Westwood, who won the tournament for a second time, climbed to 26th from 43rd.
