Bodin cleared to return from suspension

Bodin Issara's two-year suspension has been reduced following an appeal with the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and will be able to return to action next month.

The 22-year-old shuttler was banned for two years starting in July last year after punching fellow Thai Maneepong Jongjit during the men's doubles final at the 2013 Canada Open.

The Badminton Association of Thailand (BAT) then lodged an appeal.

"The BWF has approved the appeal lodged by the BAT," said BAT president Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul. "Bodin can return to playing from next month."

However, Bodin has to regularly report to the BWF until next July. "If the player [Bodin] violates the rules again from January to July, he will be banned for six months and faced a fine," Patama said.

Once playing partners, Bodin and Maneepong were on opposing sides at the Canada Open. Following a war of words, Bodin attacked Maneepong during the match as Maneepong received a lesser punishment from the BWF.

Meanwhile, 2013 world champion Ratchanok Intanon has been drawn in Group B with Wang Yihan of China, Tai Tzu Ying of Taiwan and Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in the women's singles of the US$1 million World Superseries Finals which begin in Dubai today.

Group A features Wang Shixian of China, Saina Nehwal of India, Sung Ji-Hyun of South Korea and Bae Yeon-Ju of South Korea.
