Suphan Buri cross 100 mark

Defending champions Suphan Buri have surpassed the century mark of gold medals at the 43rd National Games in Nakhon Ratchasima.

Weightlifter Boonnathi Klakasikit of Suphan Buri won three gold medals in the women's 69kg.

Seeking to win the overall title for the third time at the annual competition, Suphan Buri had 105 gold medals at press time yesterday — 36 ahead of Bangkok's tally of 69.

At the 42nd Games they hosted in January, Suphan Buri stormed to take the overall crown with a record 198 gold medals.

It was their second overall title after their success in 1994.

In yesterday's action, weightlifter Boonnathi Klakasikit swept three golds for Supan Buri in the women's 69kg division.

Suphan Buri also got golds in shooting, bridge and tennis.

Although Suphan Buri enjoyed a gold haul, they were disappointed in the men's football after losing 2-0 to Bangkok in the final.

Charnchai Jaisue scored in each half to give the defending champions a deserved victory. Charnchai also won the player of the tournament award.

Chon Buri were crowned men's football champions for the third straight time.

At the 42nd Games, they beat Lamphun in a penalty shootout in the final.

In women's football, defending champions Khon Kaen, who beat Chon Buri 1-0 in the previous final, lost 9-8 to Bangkok on penalties.

In futsal, Sumut Sakhon beat Bangkok 6-4 to win gold in the men's event, while the women's title went to Khon Kaen who retained the crown by beating Maha Sarakham 5-1.

Weightlifter Srat Sumpradit of Udon Thani claimed all three gold medals in the men's 94kg.

He lifted a record 170kg in snatch and 201kg in clean and jerk for a total of 371kg.

With only two days to go, 14 provinces have not yet won a gold medal.
