Golfers call on Thai PGA president to leave position

Golfers, led by Asian Tour stars Prom Meesawat and Pariya Junhasavasdikul, have urged Chayapat Sunayont to resign as president of the Professional Golf of Thailand following yesterday's meeting of the organisation.

About 40 golfers joined the call for Chayapat's immediate resignation, claiming that he had failed to honour his promises.

Pariya alleged that Chayapat, who succeeded golfer Thongchai Jaidee as Thai PGA president in 2012, had made several mistakes.

Pariya claimed Chayapat had promised to raise the total purse of each domestic tournament to 2.5 million baht but it is only one million baht.

The two-time Asian Tour winner also claimed that before Chayapat was elected Thai PGA president the organisation had about 18 million baht in its bank accounts but now it is about 10 million baht in the red.

"The situation has become worse," he said.

Prom, who was third on the 2014 Asian Tour money list, said he wants to support young players.

Chayapat, who was re-elected last October, said he would not heed the call for his immediate resignation but would quit in February.
