Gerrard 'close to LA Galaxy deal'

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is close to agreeing an 18-month contract with Major League Soccer team the Los Angeles Galaxy, according to a BBC report on Tuesday.

Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard (2nd R) waits to take the kick-off at the start of the second half during his side's FA Cup third round match against AFC Wimbledon in Kingston Upon Thames, south west London on January 5, 2015

Gerrard, 34, announced on Friday that he is to leave Liverpool at the end of the season after a 25-year association with the club and subsequently revealed that he will move to the United States.

The BBC report, which did not cite any sources, said that the former England captain would sign a contract worth around pound sterling6 million ($9.1 million, 7.6 million euros) with the Galaxy.

A move to the Galaxy would reunite Gerrard with his old Liverpool team-mate Robbie Keane and see him follow in the footsteps of former England colleague David Beckham, who spent five years at the California club.

Gerrard scored twice for Liverpool in their 2-1 FA Cup third-round win at fourth-tier AFC Wimbledon on Monday, taking his tally for the season to nine goals.
