Thailand meet Honduras

Thailand will open their King's Cup campaign against Honduras, the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) announced yesterday.

South Korea will take on Uzbekistan in the other game on the opening day of the tour-team tournament to be held in Nakhon Ratchasima from Feb 1-7.

FAT secretary-general Worawut Thongsringarm said Honduras had confirmed that they use their 2014 World Cup side while South Korea will field their U23 team.

However, he said he was unsure which Uzbekistan team will play at the King's Cup.

"I think they will use their Asian Cup team," he said.

Uzbekistan have reached the quarter-finals at the ongoing Asian Cup in Australia.

Meanwhile, Thailand coach Kiatisak Senamuang started the team's preparation for the King's Cup yesterday.

Four players have pulled out of the squad due to injuries — Charyl Chappuis, Sarawut Masuk, Praweenawat Boonyong and Adisorn Promrak.

Kiatisak has called up four players from the pre-Olympic squad — Jaturong Pimkool, Kasitdet Wechayawong, Jenpob Sumpaodee and Patipan Pinsermsutsri — to train with the King's Cup team.

Kiatisak said he may not use the quartet as the King's Cup but he wants them to gain experience ahead of the Olympic qualifying round in March and the SEA Games in June.
