Vonn fastest in St Moritz training

SAINT MORITZ (SWITZERLAND) - American star Lindsey Vonn looks set to build on her record 63rd World Cup wins by setting the fastest time in the first training session for Saturday's downhill at Saint Moritz.

US Lindsey Vonn competes on her way to winning the women's World Cup Super G event of the FIS Ski World Cup in Cortina D'Ampezzo on January 19, 2015

The 30-year-old overtook Austrian legend Annemarie Moser-Proell's previous record women's tally of 62 wins between 1970 and 1980 by winning the downhill and Super-G races at Italian resort Cortina d'Ampezzo on Sunday and Monday.

The Olympic downhill champion in 2010 and world champion in the discipline in 2009 could have reached the landmark earlier but for a lengthy absence due to injury.

Vonn clocked a time of 1min 48.26sec on Thursday to finish 0.64sec ahead of Italian Johanna Schnarf with Liechtenstein's Tina Weirather third at 0.75.

The American will have a second training session on Friday before the downhill with the Super-G scheduled for Sunday.
