Rangsrid to run for TGA post again

Rangsrid Luxitanond will seek another term as president of the Thailand Golf Association (TGA).

Rangsrid Luxitanond.

Rangsrid, who has been TGA president since 2007, confirmed yesterday that he would seek another two-year stint at the election in March and that this would be his last term.

"If I get elected again and complete the two-year term, then I would be in the position for 10 years. That is quite long," he said. "Five terms would be enough for me."

Rangsrid has had a successful spell as TGA president.

Thailand won their first ever Asian Games medals in golf at the Incheon tournament last year when the players took home one gold, one silver and two bronzes.

Thai players will play in three major tournaments this year — the SEA Games in Singapore in June, Putra Cup in Thailand in September and Nomura Cup in Abu Dhabi in October.

Several Asian Games players are now professionals and the TGA is looking for new players to represent the country.

The association is organising qualifying events with the finals scheduled for Jan 26-30 at Singha Park Khon Kaen Golf Club

"We need 12 men and eight women for the national team this year," said team manager Kanes Nitiwanakul.
